Making ice cream dough was so much fun. I made it during Violet’s nap and Olivia’s forced ‘rest time’ so it was ready when they woke up. I made two different colors for the girls, and it was awesome to see the blue and the pink meld together. Plus, it was perfect to go with the Melissa and Doug Sand Cupcake Toy Set, $14 (one of my favorite summer sand toys).
Make Ice Cream Dough
1 cup baking soda
1 tbs conditioner (yes, hair conditioner)
1/2 package Duncan Hines frosting mix-ins
(find it in the baking aisle)
Mix it all together in a bowl. Use a spatula to smoosh it all together and give it to the kids in separated colors. It’s fun to see them mix them together and have fun with them. You can double, triple, quadruple as needed. As an alternative, you can use food coloring (one drop into the conditioner before mixing).
Tip: Bring out the ice cream scoop, plastic cones or even real cones for some fun ice cream inspired play.
Fun for the Bath
Baking soda and conditioner are bath tub safe and will essentially dissolve into the water, meaning that you can bring the ice cream play into the bath tub for some fun that’s easy to clean up (if you choose to play indoors).
