Four years ago I was that mom. I was that mom that snorted in disdain if a kid with a clear runny nose went within six feet of the baby. I was the mom that demanded you go wash your hands and shuddered a little if your kid kissed mine on the mouth (or if you did).
Fast forward a few years.
We’ve got two kids. Two kids that pass things back and forth and a preschooler that is around other kids every single day and bringing home the germs so the entire winter is like a non-stop sickfest.
If we didn’t go play when someone had a runny nose/cough/cold/congested we would be imprisoned in our house all winter long. Since the beginning of October Violet’s had a runny nose, cough, congestion and mild temperature from time to time. We’ve stayed home a few days at a time to allow her to ‘rest’ but when she’s back to her normal self (snotty nose and cough in tow) we’re heading back out there.
So, this morning after I give the kid a steam in the shower and a gummy vitamin with breakfast, wipe off her snotty nose and dress her in nineteen layers we will be heading out for a walk with the neighboring kids and later, to the indoor play cafe.
