There are a few of the crafts that we made last year that just didn’t work out – and there were that didn’t work out so gloriously that they were even more fantastic than I had planned. In the case of this button christmas tree, it had actually started off as a christmas tree made from Hand prints – but toddlers sometimes have a mind of their own and the hand print tree became a hand print canvas.
Button & Canvas Christmas Tree
– Gather buttons. You can buy packs of colors from the dollar store for $1/bag or raid your grandmother’s sewing basket (that’s what we did).
– Paint the canvas green (finger painting worked just fine)
– Use glue to create a rough outline of a tree – that’s your job
– Allow the toddler to glue the buttons to the outside of the tree to create the general image and then hand over the glue and allow them to fill in the tree throughout the design
This held up well wrapped in newspaper all year long and added a much needed punch of color to my preference of neutral decor on top of the white shelf. I love how it worked out and the memories that are going to come through the years as this craft had been created with those little three year old hands.
