It’s November, and despite the fact that it is a sunny afternoon, it’s the prime season for doing the many, many holiday crafts that are going to be done around here. Olivia has been wanting to create some play dough, and I’ve been wanting to play with it with the kids so today we just did that and created some gingerbread play dough that made wonderful gingerbread men.
Gingerbread Play Dough
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 tbs cream of tarter
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1/4 cup cinnamon
- 2 tbs ground ginger
Get out the holiday themed cookie cutters and set aside fifteen minutes to make this delicious scented play dough that can be played with while warm.
To make it: Combine all of the ingredients in a sauce pan, stirring on medium heat until the mixture starts to resemble mashed potatoes and darken. When that happens, remove the mixture from the heat, let cool a bit and get creating. From the time that you put it on the heated pan, it takes about five to seven minutes.
To store: seal in covered container in the pantry or fridge for up to six weeks. You don’t have to use the cream of tarter in the playdough, if you don’t have it on hand but it helps to create some extra elasticity in the play dough.
