When you’re putting away the decorations this year, make a list of the things that you loved doing, the traditions and the things that you wish you could change that you did through the current holidays. It could be as simple as spend more time watching Christmas movies together as a family, make sure that you visit that Christmas show or stick to the advent calendar – but make this list, stash it away with the holiday décor and don’t think about it again until next December when it comes time to pull the list out again.
For us, December was a rough month. There wasn’t a week out of the month that someone wasn’t sick. Next fall, it’s flu mist for everyone. Though I was finished shopping for the most part, there were still those last minute things that seemed to eat up our time together. Next year, I want to be completely done shopping by December. I don’t want to be running around grabbing stocking stuffers in the middle of the month and the only time that I want to visit the Mall during the entire month is for a quick check-in with Santa.
I want to make sure that we get a ‘proper’ Santa picture with the girls. I want to bring out the Elf of the Shelf and I want to ‘grow’ magical Candy Canes when we plant tic tacs in Sugar. I want to read twenty five Christmas stories and I want to do just as many holiday crafts as we did this year. I want to take Olivia to volunteer and deliver toys for Santa’s Anonymous and I want to bake more.
Next December, I want to bring the girls’ to choose their favorite Christmas ornament and I want to plan to spend the few days after Christmas in the mountains with the silence of the snow falling around us. I want to do everything on our Christmas Advent list + more and I want to bring the girls’ shopping to pick out a special gift for their Dad, not just let them choose it and order online.
