This is an appetizer that the kids love helping with and it makes it a bit easier when we make them in bulk, and we’re ready to go for the holidays. To make it easier for the kids, we use the toothpicks to pick up the tortellini, dip them and roll them in the breading. Then, we put them on to the baking dish to cook, without the toothpicks.
Oven Toasted Tortellini & Marinara Sauce
2 cups breadcrumbs
1 1/2 cups milk
3-4 tbs herbs of your choice
(I used basil and pasta/pizza seasoning)
3/4-1 lb tortellini/ravioli
1. Combine milk, eggs with 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp pepper
2. Dip cooked tortellini into the mixture
3. Mix breadcrumbs with seasoned breadcrumbs
4. Coat each piece of pasta
5. Place on baking sheet
Cook at 400 degrees for 7-10 minutes on oiled oven dish or until golden brown.
One of my favorite ways to serve this appetizer is with a trio of different sauces to choose from. You can create an assortment of pesto, cream sauce or marinara to create fun new flavor combinations each time that you take another oven baked tortellini.
