A few times a week we walk through the wooded areas near our home. There is a fun 12 acre Urban Forest close to our house, and another more wooded path with a bridge that just screams “adventure time”, The girls walk and explore, usually bringing random bits of things home to paint. On our last trip, we spotted a woodpecker, and Olivia questioned whether he had a home because they were ‘getting rid of all the trees’.
Concerned as she was, I thought it would be a great idea to bring together something on our spring bucket list with something that she was interested in. So, we got birdhouses for the girls to paint that we could bring back to the forest and add a bit of bright color to their space, provide a home for a bird and give the girls something to get excited about every single time we walked through the forest.
Hanging Birdhouses in the Forest
1. Paint the Birdhouse
2. Let it dry
3. Sign your name
4. Hang in a forest you walk through
The activity went great with the pieces of trees that the girls dragged home from the forest. We are going to finish painting the tree pieces, attach a hook to the back and hang them outside to add some color to our outdoor living space.
