After a morning of playing outside or running around the back yard, Violet needs a nap. There’s no chance that she’s going to be able to skip it anytime soon and it’s the perfect chance for me to get some of those things that I need to get done around the house. Unfortunately, I’ve been able to accomplish very little lately with the laments of ‘I’m bored’ and ‘I want to go for a walk’ and ‘play a game with me’. Usually, we’ve just spent the past four hours playing something, and so I need that time to get things done.
Today, fed up of the boredom I remembered a foam recipe that I could use to keep Olivia occupied on the deck while I get some work done inside. The cotton candy foam is a fun way to mix colors, fill cupcake holders and play until her sister woke up and joined in on the fun.
It would be perfect to fill a water table with, and took about five minutes of prep on my part. She was occupied for about a half hour, so it was worth it for the chance to cross a couple of things off of my to do list while she was occupied. She was arms deep in it, so her arms had a bit of a blue tint but nothing major and it didn’t stain the deck, so if you were worried about staining I would reduce the color to only 1-2 drops and make sure that they’ve been mixed well into the dish soap.
1/4 cup water
2 tbs dish soap
4-5 drops of food coloring
Mix these ingredients, on high, in a stand mixer or with a handheld mixer for 60-90 seconds. Start low so you don’t splatter food coloring over yourself and ensure that the food coloring is mixed in well to avoid hands being stained while you’re playing.
