With Spring and summer right around the corner I have begun to think about the plethora of sidewalk chalk that the kids go through. No, I’m serious. We go through at least a large box of it a week. That means I’m stocking up on sidewalk chalk when it’s on sale, adding it to the birthday gift want-list that people ask when it comes around to Olivia’s birthday and it’s finding its way into the cart every single time that we go to the store.
Instead, a $.99 box of corn starch provides a welcome relief to the ‘buy all the sidewalk chalk’ fund.
Washable Sidewalk Chalk Pant
1 cup Cornstarch
1 cup Water
Food Coloring (Neon + regular to get the best array of vibrant colors)
Mix equal parts cornstarch and water and divide into a miniature muffin tin, or a fantastic mini silicon muffin container. Add color. Want a cheat sheet on how to make some awesome colors? You can find that right here.
In addition to paint brushes I sent the kids outside with cotton balls, medicine droppers, dandelions and straws to create some fun art on the sidewalk. It’s the perfect rainy day activity, as they can experiment with the colors and the ground is nice and wet, so the colors are going to stay wet. For sunny days, the colors dry quickly and nicely, before being washed away.
