It used to be that a trip to a restaurant only got expensive when we wanted it to be that way. A special date night out to one of our favorite restaurants, a splurge. Even when the kids were infants, it was simple, they could pick at the food that we ordered or we would bring along snacks that they would, or a small container of baby food that we made at-home.
Now that we’ve got two kids, getting their own meals, and their own drinks, it can get expensive. For us, it’s not fesasible to stop eating in restaurants entirely, because it’s just something that’s become part of our weekend, or quick weeknight dinner, but there are a few things that we can to do reduce the cost.
Kids Eat Free at Montana’s on Tuesday
Kids eat free at Montana’s on Tuesday, with the purchase of a regular entree. So, if we’re planning on not making dinner one night during the week. It’s usually there. The generous portions, the fantastic balloon animals and the quick meal, we usually make plans to head to Montana’s for a quick dinner out during the week.
Go to Delux Burger for Sunday Funday
Kids eat free on Sundays (with regular meal purchase). The kids love going to Delux Burger, for the cotton candy at the end of the meal and the delicious kids burgers and options to eat. They love the fries, I like the generous portions and it’s usually pretty quick if you’re looking for an easy meal on a Sunday.
Boston Pizza $5 Kids Meal Card
With the Boston Pizza $5 Kids meal card (you can buy it online this year). You can get kids meals with the purchase of an entree. It’s a simple way to reduce the cost and save yourself $15-16 every time you bring the kids out to eat.
Groupon is one of my favorite places to get gift certificates for places like Mongolie Grill. When we go there, the kids meals are usually under a few dollars because the kids pick a few veggies, and a couple of pieces of chicken and since we’ve usually spent $15 for $30 worth of food, it’s not terrible when we add on another $10-15 for the adult meals, keeping the cost of dinner under $40.
You can find quite a few other options on Groupon, to save 50% off of the cost of meals – and there are often additional 10-15% off coupon codes.
Use Take Out Coupons
If you’re going to grab take out or drive through on the way home from work, use coupons. We get so many take out coupons in our mail box and though I usually toss the junk mail right into the recycling bin, I make sure to look through for coupons that I can stash in the car or give to Jamie if he’s going to grab something on the way home, or grab lunch while he’s at work. Check if one of your favorite take-out places has an app, as there are often coupons there, or coupons that can be found on your receipt.
