Playdates and spills go together like peanut butter and jam – especially when you make the mistake of letting the kids run off to the bathroom to wash their hands together. You know how sometimes as a parent you realise something is a bad idea from the moment it came out of your mouth? This is one of those times I should have known.
After walking in the bathroom I found finger prints on the light switch, jam all over the sink and a soaked hand towel, streaked with strawberry jam.
Shaking my head, I quickly realised that like most of the messes at-home, it could have been avoided by shadowing the kids – but that’s not possible all the time. Sometimes, you’re simply forced to send them along to wash their hands while you clean up the chocolate spilled seeping through the leaf in the dining room table, right?
Into the washer went the kids’ shirts. Into the washer went a scoop of OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover, into the washer went the hand towels and into the washer went the robe with mascara all over it, from the last episode of Parenthood I watched.
Tip: Make sure to add the OxiClean to the water before the clothes or soiled linens for the best clean. For tough stains, you can pre-soak with OxiClean.
Why OxiClean? Oxygen, combined with water, targets the stains themselves rather than the fabric. Targeting the stains, rather than the fabric, means that the clothing is going to last longer – and that’s essential.
There are two ways that we use OxiClean: scooped into the washing machine as an extra stain removing boost or pre-soaked, in the sink, for those hard to get out stains. It’s common that you’ll find things soaking in the half-bathroom sink for the recommended one to six hours, helping to nix those stains on pieces of clothing and towels that may have otherwise been ruined.
For the times that you’re cleaning up the chocolate milk and sticky-jam-hands have found their way onto light switches, bathroom surfaces walls and blankets touched along the way, you can use OxiClean for hard surfaces too. Mix the OxiClean with water and apply it to the surface with a cloth, scrubbing those jam hand fingerprints off of the wall to make your life just a little bit easier.
You can find OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover at Shoppers Drug Mart and Walmart across Canada. Check out their Facebook page for more stain-removing tips.
