Spring break is right around the corner. If you’re looking for a way to get out of town for a couple of days, you might want to consider Calgary. In Calgary, you can get Jelly Modern donuts, introduce the kids to some new foods at a Mediterranean Deli, explore at Telus Spark and spend the mornings and evenings playing in the Waves Waterpark while you stay at a kid friendly hotel like Best Western Plus Port O Call. We had the opportunity to spend the weekend there, a couple of weeks ago, and loved the quick getaway – where, as you can imagine, we spent a lot of downtime in Waves Waterpark.
Build Your Experience
When you get settled, stop by the front desk to get passes for local attractions, at a discount. Save up to 50% off of admission passes for Telus Spark or Calgary Zoo, or Calaway Park in the summer. You can use these passes to cut the costs of a weekend getaway. We saved more than $20 on the admission costs to Telus Spark, buying the passes through the hotel. If you’re pressed for time, you can quickly charge them to the room on your way out the door.
Family Friendly Weekend Getaway
Getting away for the weekend is one of our favorite things to do, regardless of the season. With the colder weather, we’re always looking for somewhere that the kids are going to be able to enjoy, without leaving the hotel. With the in-room movies, Waves Waterpark and two restaurants to choose from for room service, Best Western Port O Call is a family friendly option that makes for an easy weekend away. There’s a pizza + pasta buffet, that we didn’t get around to trying this time around – but have heard great things about.
The spacious room featured two queen sized beds, a sitting area with a couch and chair and a dressing and bathroom area inside the room, more than enough room for the kids to have space to play, and enough room for all of the ‘stuff’.
Waves Waterpark was a fun experience for both of the kids, who slid down the slides again and again, and waded through the kids area, enjoying the ‘mermaid cove’ as they called it. With towels, life jackets, and everything you needed, right there, along with the easy access to the hotel rooms, it’s great. Cabana rooms are available if you want easy access to the pools, and a great choice for families that are going to be spending a lot of time in the pool – and trust me, the kids are going to want to. I loved the fact that Olivia (5) was able to touch the bottom through the entire length of the pool, since she’s a new swimmer.
Located next to the airport, there are parking options available if you’re traveling out of Calgary and there’s easy access to popular places like the Zoo, or Cross Iron Mills. We had easy access to some of our favorite places in Calgary – and were able to head back for a bedtime swim that made bedtime a piece of cake.
