“All of the dresses in my closet I have weared before”
“OHHHHHHH NOOOOOO I will brush my teeth when I get home”
“You put cream cheese on my bagel”
In the matter of the nineteen minutes that Olivia was up and awake for school, getting ready to go on the bus this morning, she crumpled on the floor dramatically, whining, no less than three times.
Last night in bed I decided that I was going to make a better effort to be patient, kind and understanding because it’s summer, she’s tired of school, she’s tired of getting up early and she just wants to play all day. (Let’s just say that yesterday, as a Monday, was rough). When the whining, and the dramatic falling to the floor because she didn’t have any new dresses in her closet began, I walked into the pantry, grabbed her a snack for her lunch, and remembered the temporary Hello Kitty tattoos that arrived in the kids Nerd Block this week.
“Hey?”, I asked her. “Do you want a Hello Kitty tattoo before school?”
Instantly, she changed from the whining kid crumpled on the floor, to the kid that ate her bagel as I applied three tattoos to her before school. A rainbow, a Hello Kitty and a squirrel.
Happily she brushed her teeth as I held the wet facecloth on her arm to give her a tattoo, smiling in the mirror at the already applied one on her cheek.
Cranky kids? Road trips? Vacation-crazies? Trying to hold it together for the last few days of school? Temporary tattoos fix everything when you’re five.
