When it comes to summer adventures, we’ve usually got a full schedule. This summer is no different, with a long list of places we want to go, new terrain we want to explore, and a long list of adventures to tackle while the summer is warm.
Last year, with a three year old that preferred to spend more time in the bike trailer being pushed than exploring, we didn’t really need to worry about the right shoes for summer adventures. Most of the time, she was in flip flops when it came to those adventures – or barefoot (which is the best way to be).
This year, we want to make sure those small feet are protected, but that the girls are still going to be able to move well, and have something that feels like sandals. This year, after a quick trip to the Shoe Company, we’re going to be ready.
These Keen Seacamp II sandals are the ideal hybrid water sandal for active kids who like to splash around. The rubber sole will ensure that these shoes do not mark up the floor, and will provide increased flexibility and freedom. We found them in both sizes we needed, both in toddler and youth – in store.
Five Summer Adventures We’ve Got Planned
Weekend Tipi-ing in Waterton | Waterton is full of adventure and we’ve got four full days planned later this summer to explore the area. We’re going to camp in a Tipi, we’re going to explore the local trails and we’re bringing the bikes for expert level exploring.
Exploring Heart Creek Trail | The easy creek trail is close to Canmore, and an easy 2-3km stroll with several easy crossings, seven in all, to a small waterfall at the end of the canyon. This is going to be the first one we tackle this year, with a weekend trip planned in June to spend time in Canmore.
Exploring Haida Gwaii | As our ‘bigger trip’ this summer, we’ve been debating Haida Gwaii. I spent a couple of years there growing up, and want to introduce the kids to the natural wonders presents throughout the island. This trip depends on the amount of vacation time Jamie has available, good timing, and the logistics of flights vs. driving. With a trip to Vancouver last year under our belt, the kids have been seasoned road-trippers.
The whole natural vacation, collecting shells and spending time in front of the ocean is one of those soul-refreshing trips, and I hope that we’re able to make the timing of this trip happen, and that I’m able to convince Jamie that’s it’s worth a big trip of the summer.
Bike Trip from Canmore to Banff | For this one, it’s likely that Violet is indeed, going to be back in the bike trailer but I’m confident that Olivia is going to be able to easily make the trip. Comfortable shoes are a must, and they’ve got to be versatile enough for when you’re six and you want to hop off the bike frequently to stop and explore the world around you.
Kayaking to the Picnic Table Island | for the last four years, we’ve driven by the picnic table island that looks so small from shore, and this is the year we’ve got plans to stop, grab the kayaks off of the roof rack and get out there. The kids are going to be so excited.
This post is brought to you by The Shoe Company. Are you shopping for durable shoes for the kids (and you) that are going to take you through all of your summer adventures? Check out the great selection of Keen sandals (and more) for kids and toddlers.
