With road trips, quiet afternoons spent escaping the sun and late nights where you don’t feel guilty staying up and watching ‘just one more episode’, there’s been plenty of time to binge watch Netflix – and there are many more in our future. Here’s some inspiration for you to binge watch in August, some of our top picks:
Stranger Things | At only eight episodes, we’re sure hoping to see a continuation of some sort with the series, but it’s an 80s cult-classic throwback with some science fiction, nostalgia and a story line and characters to keep you interested in watching straight through until the end of the full eight episodes – where the end will get you thinking. Watch it on Netflix.
Aquarius | Another Netflix Binge, you’re going to want to watch this one because it’s a story crafted around the rise of Charles Manson, and stars David Duchovny. It will keep you interested, make you go back and ‘google’ to learn more about events around that time and is one of the things that I binge watched on our last glamping trip, since the campground had wifi!
The Night Of | Based on the BBC series “Criminal Justice,” HBO’s eight-part production “The Night Of” stars John Turturro and Riz Ahmed in a story about a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. A night that begins innocently for Pakistani-American college student Nasir “Naz” Khan turns horrific after he meets a mysterious young woman. In custody and awaiting his formal arraignment, Naz realizes that his survival — or perhaps his demise — rests not with his attorney, John Stone, but with a particular inmate at Rikers Island. You’re going to want to watch it because it’s going to capture your attention from the first episode. Watch it on HBO on Demand.
True Detective | This one I’ve kind of ‘watched in the background’ as Jamie got into each episode and became more and more invested in the story of two detectives, and a haunting case. After the third or fourth episode, I was hooked – and we just finished the first season. If you haven’t watched it, and want something thrilling, give this one a try (even though it might take a couple of episodes to get into it). Watch it on: HBO on Demand.
