Netflix has rolled out a feature we’ve been requesting for years: You can now download select TV shows and movies for viewing on Apple and Android devices while disconnected from the internet. Yaassss!
I just did a little happy dance that’s going to make those road trips even easier – for the kids, and the person in the passenger seat. Netflix Canada has a ‘download’ option available for programming in the app.
Simple to use, and easy to delete from your device when viewing is finished, just in time for the next road trip, or the ever-fickle changing tastes of children, it’s a great solution to those expensive data uses, monthly.
I just heard our data plan sigh in relief, I think. Though we’ve got something like 21G/month, we’re constantly going over as Jamie uses his data frequently to learn the most obscure things on the internet and I’m constantly using my phone to work on the go, and tethering to it when we’re in the car and at places without wifi – I love the idea of being able to download things for the kids to watch, so they can stop infringing on my data plan.
“While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their ‘Stranger Things’ binge while on airplanes and other places where internet is expensive or limited,” Eddy Wu, Netflix’s director of product innovation, wrote in a blog post announcing the feature.
Now, the only question is – what are you going to download first?
