Car Shopping: When the Subaru Gets Too Small

Lori Uncategorized

Four kids. That’s the plan. Well, in one of our opinions. Jamie is still of the opinion that three’s a nice round number for a family size. Me? As much as the kids drive me insane sometimes, four would be fantastic, I love big families.

However, with two kids we’ve started to feel the crunch for space when it comes to our car. The Subaru Impreza has become a bit cramped with two carseats, groceries, a stroller stashed in the trunk and the other random items that get brought into the car.
Three kids in the back? Two carseats a booster seat? No, I am not pregnant but in anticipation of how awful it would be to deal with three carseats in a car we’ve started to look at a few vehicles that have a bit more space, affordable +/- $30,000 (but looking at vehicles it seems we might have to increase), third row seating, DVD entertainment to keep the kiddos sane during road trips and decent fuel efficiency. We’ve started using tools that can compare cars in Canada to find a vehicle that has everything we need but that’s also within the budget.

I see a lot of test driving in the upcoming 6-12 months, as the timeline that we have set to purchase a new vehicle. I also see a lot of discussion when it comes down to making the right choice - well maybe, the only thing I really care about is enough space and heated seats. Oh, and not a minivan. Jamie? His list is probably a lot longer than mine.

Why not a minivan? Because the road to the minivan leads to the road of probably buying a stick family sticker set which leads to losing your dignity. (;

Any recommendations for me that include third-row seating options that has decent fuel efficiency? I would love to hear what you have to say!
