/ On Sunday, when I noticed that Olivia had started biting her nails, I started using the STOP! Biting stuff on her - and me. As Jamie says, I’ve got Hobo Nails. They’re so short because I’ve been biting them for years. One time, I even bit off a set of gel nails. Seriously, that’s gross typing that so it makes the fact that I haven’t bitten my nails for almost a week a feat. It works, we found the Witchcraft brand at Shoppers Drug Mart. It works so good in fact, it ruined my chicken wings the other night!
/Jamie mowed the lawn this week and somehow ran over a magazine. I bribed Olivia with two dollars out of sheer laziness to go outside and pick up the paper and clean up the yard. She countered me with twenty dollars, and we finally settled on ten. That girl is good.
/I fell asleep for a solid twenty minutes during the middle of Godzilla last night. I blame the comfortable reclining seats at the VIP Theatre.
/ Where has the butter crock been my whole life? We stopped buying margerine when we started eating real food but the whole annoying thing about butter is keeping it in the fridge and it’s hard and you can’t spread it on toast, but you can’t just keep it on the counter the entire time because then you’ll feed your kids moldy tasting butter. The water in it creates some sort of vacuum seal and you can leave it on the counter.
/ I adore the chalk board that we DIYd because I get to see little pictures like this made on the chalk board with excited screams that shout it’s a portrait of us. Until the next day, when I’ve been replaced by grandma.
/ It’s May 16th. I’ve already got a sunglass tan line and a flip flop tan line and yet I’m sitting here in front of the fireplace. How’s that for the middle of May? And? I’m officially old because I just told Olivia that “we weren’t heating the outside”.
/ This week we gave Olivia the mini kick scooter. Rather than steering, you turn the scooter by leaning. It’s amazing to see in just a week how she’s learned to glide and navigate it, leaning all the way. It’s one of the coolest toys for summer and the kids are already fighting over it so I think we’re going to have get a second one for Violet.
/ Crap. The elliptical machine we got from Costco has become the clothes hanger since the warm weather got here and we’ve spending so much time outside. At the end of the day I fall asleep in seven seconds flat, to the dismay of Jamie, and there it sits, not plugged in, not used and not loved. I need to find something new to binge watch on Netflix. Wait, isn’t the second season of Orange is the New Black up on Netflix? Hello, workout time.
/ The other night we made stuffed burgers and they were so good. I flattened out hamburger, put chopped cooked bacon, jalepenos and shredded cheese on top and folded over the burgers to make yummy stuffed goodness for the barbecue. They were really, really good. So good, that I think I won’t be able to go back to making plain burgers.
/ If it ever gets warm, I’m making these chai latte ice pops again. They were so delicious, and full of caffeine and whipped cream and delicious, delicious, productivity in an ice pop.
That’s funny about the butter. We grew up eating butter from the cupboard. My mom just cut of a chunk big enough to fit nicely in a 1 cup Pyrex with a lid. We now do the same. The only time I ever had mold was when I tried a glass butter crock. I read that the low moisture content of the butter is what keeps it from going bad at room temperature. Maybe we just eat too fast for it to taste off? It lasts at least a few days before it’s gone.
I think I was just putting too much out at a time too, the butter crock is nice because it’s a small amount of butter so we end up using it in just a few days and I’ll pull it out and fill it when I am softening butter for baking muffins or something.
