It’s been five years of having bassinets, pack and plays and toddler cots in our bedroom. It’s been five years of ditching the bed frame because the three feet of mattresses would just be too high for those small people to climb on to our bed without falling and banging their head. We suffer from forgotten bedroom syndrome. We’ve had a piece of art on the wall that I snagged from Homesense for $12, that’s been in various places in the house and finally ended up in our bedroom, hanging upside down, since one of the kids knocked it off of the wall in a fit of jumping on the bed a couple of months ago. I washed the duvet cover and pillowcases three days ago, and they’re sitting in a laundry basket on the other side of the room.
Yet the kids? They’ve got perfectly colorful bedrooms, bright spaces, filled with accents and fun decorations, art and things to inspire them.
With Target leaving, there’s one more goal that I need to fulfill before they’re gone and that’s revamping our bedroom and master bath into something fantastic. A space that’s for more than sleeping, working out and showering. A place that’s inviting, and filled with just as much personality that I’ve worked hard to create in the rest of the house, but have forgotten in our bedroom.
What’s on the list for the forgotten bedroom?
- Proper nightstands, in a bright color with lamps
- Sun blocking blinds and curtains
- Art for the bedroom and repairing the jewelry holder that I made last year
- New bedding (and potentially a bed frame providing we can find one low enough for the kids to easily get into our bed, with new curtains and blinds.
- New shower curtain, decor and other things for the master bath
- Floating shelves for the wall opposite the window, for additional storage
- Dresser for under the television, or get a dresser for inside our closet for additional storage in there and find a way to organize and make use of the closet space better
- upholstered bench for the end of our bed
This weekend, with one of the last trips to Target, we’re going to take care of FBS for good, starting with curtains, bedding and night tables.
