Every few months, I order toothpaste and soap online because they don’t sell our preferred brand at Costco (the one planned trip a week we shop). Shipping is free, and it saves a trip to the one store that has horrendous customer service, few tills open and is generally just not a pleasant shopping experience).
We get organic produce delivered, and some extra treats, free of charge with a minimum of $35, to save a trip to multiple stores through the week.
I bought a $42 tutu at a local store this week, and made a note to plan ahead for next time - so I could save half the cost and shop online, to save a trip next time around.
If a store doesn’t have a website, or if the website isn’t up to date, I won’t go to the store to just browse.
We negotiated the purchase of a vehicle, strictly through email.
I have a running list of the things that we are going to purchase for the next six months to avoid over-shopping for the things that we don’t need. I compare the prices of everything online, check reviews, compare different brands and finally check the stock of a local store.
We’re guilty of show-rooming, browsing through local baby or kids boutiques, or home stores, and finding a lower price for the same product online - usually with free shipping.
In fact, I’ve even ordered products within seconds of leaving a business, from a different online store with a less expensive option.
I don’t drive into the city to go to a store if I can order the product online, and don’t need it immediately.
When it comes to renting a movie. We HD quality movies using AirPlay from Apple TV, using free movie sites, online. If I can’t find it there, I’ll rent the movie from Shaw on Demand, or iTunes because we can watch it in the click of a button.
We buy digital copies of everything: movies, music and even video games.
We shop around, we shop smart - and we know the value of our time. The way that we shop (and the way that so many other people shop) has ruined Redbox Canada. Sorry about that.
