Saving More than I Spent with RetailMeNot.ca

Lori Saving Money

When I opened up an email last week that invited me to take part in a shopping challenge, I was intrigued - that right there? It’s my jam. The lowdown of the challenge is to use retailmenot.com to see who can save the most using the promotions on the popular online coupon code website.

My first step? Check my ongoing list of things that need to be purchase, and choose the items I was going to shop for. Reading through the list, I mulled a few options: new flatware, spring dresses for Violet and a pair of go-to sandals for the summer, versatile enough to wear with shorts, or a maxi dress for me, t-shirts for Jamie and a new duvet for our bedroom.

Money saving tip: Keep a running list of the things that you need to buy, or things that are coming up in the future to purchase, this helps you to stay on track.

Item No. 1: Flatware

Immediately, I spotted a deal for The Bay, highlighting up to 70% off of housewares. I had a feeling I would find flatware - and I did. Two, Bellasera 20-piece flatware sets, on sale for half off. This would be perfect for replacing those lost teaspoons that I’m sure made their way to the park. This time around, spoons stay in the kitchen - and it will be easy to find the same set when it comes time to replace them, or add to the set.

Original Price: $319.98
I spent: $167.98 (up to 70% off on RetailMeNot.ca)
Savings: $160.00

Item No. 2: Toddler Dresses

I browsed through the website and happened upon one of the popular deals, saving an extra 25% off at Old Navy. I found Violet, four adorable sundresses that would get her through Sunday Brunch and birthday parties, through the summer. And at these prices? I wouldn’t be too worried about her playing in the dresses too.

Original Price: $96.35
I spent: $44.89 (up to 40% off sale on RetailMeNot.ca, and an extra 25% coupon)
Savings: $51.46

Item No. 3: A New Maxi Dress

I didn’t want to complete an entire shopping challenge without buying a little something for myself, so I browsed retailmenot.ca for a coupon code for one of my favorite places to find Maxi Dresses, Rickis and noticed coupons to get free shipping for orders of $40+. This would work, but getting close to the budget, I opted to click on another highlighted sale, offering to save up to 70% off of sale styles. Bam! I found a Maxi dress, regular $69.99, on sale for $29.99 - and chose to have it shipped to our local store, for free.

Original Price: $69.99
I spent: $29.99
Savings: $40.00

If you’ve been adding up these totals you might have noticed that I saved more than I spent during this shopping challenge, for a total of $251.46 in savings.

Want to save? Shop RetailMeNot.ca

I’ve teamed up with Retail Me Not to share the chance to save with a $100 Visa gift card - you can use it to shop online, in-store with the printable offers and details on Retail Me Not or even use it on travel, because you can find those types of deals on the website too.
