Just because school is back in session doesn’t mean that you have to stop the fun. We’re fortunate to live in a city where we’ve got so much to explore, all the time. Whatever the season, you can always find free things to do in Edmonton find out what to do with the kids in Edmonton or take the opportunity to learn something new.
No need to hear ‘I’m bored’ here’s a bit of inspiration to fill your fall with fun activities that the whole family is going to enjoy.
1. Shoot a spud gun at the Edmonton Corn Maze
2. Try a kids surfset class for fun and fitness on a surf board in Sherwood Park or Edmonton
3. Check out the kids cooking classes at PC Cooking school
4. Hang a wish on a tree during the Nuit Blance festival in Churchill Square
5. Celebrate the Cornfest at the Callingwood Farmer’s Market
6. Walk through the Kinnaird ravine and see the ‘fake hoodoos’ - one of the kids favorite places to explore in the city.
7. Run through Borden Park and play on the playground amidst the changing colors of the leaves
8. Take a cooking class for free at Williams Sonoma during one of the Jr. Chef classes
9. Drop in to Playmaker U and check out the Battlezone for kids interested in combat and nerf on Saturday nights
10. Swim at Millennium Place on Saturday afternoons and jump on the inflatable course in the deep swimming pool (Note the closure between September 8 -27.
11. Watch ‘Inside Out’ under the stars during this fun movie night event on September 18
12. Spend your Saturday morning watching a $2.99 family favorite movie at Cineplex and don’t forget your scene card to save 10% off of the treats
13. Big kids? take surfing lessons at West Edmonton Mall or drop in after you’ve completed the initial less for some unstructured surfing time
14. Jump at the Launch pad for only $9 for mini-launchers
15. Drop into gymnastics and explore the gym during drop in times at Salto Gymnastics in Sherwood Park,
16. Go to the Dollar Store and buy bird houses and paint. Paint them in bright colors and hang them at places in your local community
17. Drop in and play Lego during an Edmonton Public Library Program
18. Get free admission to the art gallery the last Thursday of the month and check out the new exhibits
19. Visit the Blue Quill Party in the Park. There’s bouncy castles, face painting, music and more in September 12 or the Belevedere Party in the Park where there are cupcake and pie contests.
20. Bring out the kids to Jackie Parker Park to plant trees during TD Tree Days
21. Head out to your local woods and build a fort. Throwback to your own childhood and get in there and help them create something awesome (in addition to the fantastic memories you’re going to build)
22. Dress up and go to the Halloween Bonfire at John Janzen Nature Center
23. Bring the kids to Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo and watch them delight in the costumes and the chance for them to dress up themselves
24. Get free admission to some of your favorite places in Edmonton during free admission day, September 27, 2015.
25. Drop the kids off for ‘Kids Night Out’ at Color Me Mine where they can paint pottery, have pizza and hang out with friends during a movie
26. Walk through the gardens for a tropical escape at the Lee Pavillion in the Citadel downtown
27. Plan a sleepover at Champion Gymnastics where kids can spend the night and have a fun gymnastics party.
28. Walk through the feature Pyramid at the Muttart Conservatory
29. Check out Hide n Seek indoor playground and play on the Zipline
30. Visit a U pick pumpkin patch
31. Have a lunar eclipse late night party on September 27 to celebrate the full lunar eclipse
32. See ‘Alberto the Dancing Alligator‘ live at the Arts Barn
33. Drop into the Artventures program in St. Albert at the gallery (for children between the ages of 6-12) for $10/class.
34. Explore Toddler time at West Edmonton Mall where parents + kids can get it in for only $15 Mondays to Thursdays
35. Day trip to Hard Luck Canyon and make the short walk through the trail, down the canyon and explore everything there is to see in the area
36. Visit the City Market downtown when they make the transition to being indoors in City Hall over the winter months
37. Stop by Starbucks and get a kid sized hot chocolate (and don’t forget that you can get it kid temperature rated too).
38. Head out to Delux Burger for Monday Funday where kids eat free on Mondays. It’s the perfect excuse to avoid making dinner.
39. Stop by the Telus World of Science where Dinosaurs Unearthed is in it’s final weeks. You’re not going to want to miss it if you’ve got a dinosaur-loving child.
40. Stop by your local Michaels stores and take part in the Saturday morning kids classes where the kids can have fun and make something for only $2.
41. Take one of the kids yoga or family yoga classes and get flexible while spending time together playing
42. See everything at the Kaleido Family Arts Festival
43. Plan a special Sunday with a kid-friendly three course meal at the Melting Pot and do crafts and have fun with the themed monthly party on Sunday afternoon.
44. Check out the new Leduc Dinosaur Playground - there’s a fun zip line there!
45. Walk around Whyte Ave and stop into Chapters. Pick out a new book for the family and get ice cream before the only ice that you see is on the ground.
46, Learn about 3D printing or print something at Makerspace at Edmonton Public Library
47. Attend the last ‘What the Truck’ of the season on September 11 and have a food truck dinner where everyone choose something, and everyone in the family tries something new. Get there early - the best things sell out fast!
48. The weather is getting colder - Check out this list of the top ten pools in Edmonton and area and start visiting them all.
49. Take part in the monthly workshops from the Home Depot for kids and build something for free. Don’t forget to get a mini apron and collect your pin!
50. Spend a day at the John Janzen Indoor playground and warm up after you explore the Natural area outside.
