We’re at the point where we’re starting to think about packing a hospital bag. Though we’ve never really been finished early, I’ve started to think about the few things that I’ve missed the last couple of times around. Though I haven’t packed a lot in the past, because we’ve only been there for about 24 hours, there are a few must-have things that I like to bring along.
Reading through the internet to get a list, a little bit of a reminder, I came across lists of things thirty, even forty things long. Some lists were even so ridiculous as to suggest bringing along a photo of your older children, to display, so they didn’t think that you’ve forgotten about them. Really? Who is going to carry all of these ridiculous things to bring along?
I loaded my phone with a playlist of my favourite songs, podcasts and a couple of books for down time - and it will also double as a way to grab those first few photos - because I totally dropped the ball and failed to find a birth photographer (seriously, where did the time go?!)
So, in our usual minimalist style, here are some of our essentials to bring along to the hospital for the birth of our third child:
This post is brought to you by a partnership between Frugal Edmonton Mama and buybuy BABY as part of the #babyhood ambassador program. We receive special perks for being part of the program - but as always, all opinions are my own.
Stuff for Mom (and Baby) | Grab your favourite travel sizes of shampoo and conditioner. At our hair salon, they’ve got a ton of varieties of everything from shampoo and conditioner, and other hair products, to make that shower just a little better at the hospital. We skipped bringing along products for baby, since they’ve got these in the hospital - with the exception of the adorable tiny patterned diapers.
The Bag | Our Jujube ‘Be Prepared’ bag, my go-to bag, is a little too big for what we’re going to bring with us, so I shopped through the selection of bags at buybuy Baby to find something a little smaller, settling on the special edition Skip Hop tote that would work for the few things that we’re going to bring along when the time comes. Or, there’s a smaller version of the Jujube ‘Be Prepared’ if you want to splurge.
First Outfit | There are some fantastic new styles for fall at buybuy BABY including collections from Rosie Pope, Jessica Simpson and Tea Collection. In fact, there were so many adorable pieces that I couldn’t choose. To be fair, the Tea Collection was winning out for me, because of how durable, soft and high quality the pieces in the collection are - totally worth the splurge for a coming home outfit.
Easy Wear Clothes | We found some fantastic fold over style of pants, comfortable bras and tank tops at buybuy BABY, perfect for lounge wear in the hospital, and at-home, when you’ve got visitors and don’t want to throw on a pair of jeans in those first few days, but you still want to be presentable.
Extras: mints, toiletries and toothbrush, some lip balm, BBcream, bobby pins, mints and hair elastics, those are a few of the things that I stashed in my bag this weekend, as I start to pack up things for later this month. Bobby pins are nice to quickly get your hair out of your face, and small clear elastics to braid your bangs back off of your face. Also necessary? My new favourite deodorant from the Honest Company.
Tip: bring along a small bottle of essential oil spray mist, something refreshing, this tip was given to me by my friend at the Momoirs and I found a peppermint mist that smells divine, and is going to be wonderful as a little luxurious add-on for the hospital.
