When it comes to activities during the summer, there are very few trips to the toy store - very few apps asked for and very few hours spent watching television. Activities during the summer around here are spent catching up on every ray of sunshine that we’ve missed during the winter and playing, playing, playing. A lot of this playing uses hands on arts and craft (that can be quite expensive when you’re footing the bill at the local craft store). I spotted these sponges today at the dollar store and realised that they would work for the easy DIY that people were posting around the internet, using them in water fights. It got me to thinking how they would work with one of our favorite activities, chalk painting on the sidewalk so we gave them a try.
Sponge Painting Balls for Sidewalk Chalk Paint

1. Use sharp scissors and cut the sponge in half, across.
2. Cut each of the halves into three pieces, so you end up with six pieces.
3. Gather them around the center and use strong twine tied in a knot to secure the middle of the sponges, creating a fun, ball shape.
4. Prepare your favorite sidewalk chalk paint and use muffin tins to make it easier to get started
5. Create, create, create
