You know those times when you want a decent burger but you have the kids with you and don’t want to go sit down somewhere that it’s going to take half hour to get your food? I don’t know about but dining with Violet lately has been less than awesome, way less than awesome. We had the chance to check out the grand opening of Smashburger in Sherwood Park and brought Olivia (we left the restaurant-terrorizer at home with Grandma). My first impression was that it would be perfect (and practically in our backyard) for when we wanted something new, something quick and something as painless as possible when dining with a toddler that despises sitting down for long periods of time.
Smashburger is just that, burgers that have been smashed to cook. Every burger starts out in a ball, and it’s smashed onto a grill that’s been slathered with butter to create some burger-goodness.
You can find Smashburger in Sherwood Park at: 530, 5000 Emerald Drive Sherwood Park, AB T8H0P
She had the kids hot dog meal ($4.99) and Jamie and I had the BBQ Bacon n Cheddar and it was really good. I liked how ‘sauce-y’ it was and the haystack onions added some nice crunch to the burger. The Highlights? The BBQ sauce, veggie frites (flash fried carrots and green beans) and the Saskatoon Berry Milkshake.
The cost factor? Kids meals were $4.99 and had a good bit of food in them, Olivia nearly finished her hot-dog and barely touched her fries. That was nice, it’s usually the other way around. Adults can eat for between $10-15 depending on options like sides, drinks and burgers chosen.
You can check out the Smashburger Menu, here. (There are some delicious-looking local inspired options here, like the Edmonton Burger and Saskatoon Berry Milkshake, yum!)
