During the summer, when we’re constantly on the go - the snacking becomes even more important. If you’re searching for something to snack on, without the guilt (or to offset the after-dinner wine with friends that happens a lot during the summer months). We’re snacking more often, on healthy foods and eating smaller meals - which is apparently a trend with Canadians. By 2018, the total number of in-home snacks are projected to increase 19% over our current annual snacking.

Sea Salted Caramel CheeCha Puffs

A bit salty, a bit sweet, a bit crunchy and lot delicious, Sea Salted Caramel CheeCha Puffs are a delicious way to get that crunch you want, with a bite of the sweetness that seems to sneak into my mind around three o’clock. Potatoes puffed with hot air and dusted with flavour to create delicious and satisfying snack that’s under one hundred calories for two cups of CheeCha Puffs.

Salted caramel is one of the hottest trends in snacking, and one of my favorite flavours, only second to the salt and vinegar CheeCha puffs that I reach for when I’m searching for something a little more savory. You can find CheeChaa Puffs at Sobey’s, Safeway, Walmart and numerous other retailers in Alberta.

Coconut Chips with Chocolate

Coconut chips are one of my favorite things in the world. If you’re making them a bit more decadent, melt a bit of dark chocolate on top for a classic combination that’s bound to satisfy the sweet tooth. We buy a large bag of young coconut and use it to snack, drizzle with chocolate or cut up and put into granola and other delicious snack options.

Apple ‘Nachos’

Dried apples are easy to find (or make). The thin sliced chips are delicious when you give them a quick shake of cinnamon and drizzle with chocolate. You can get creative with this one, and use fresh apples with almond butter and chocolate, topping with nuts to add a bit more crunch for on the go. Easily enjoyed at-home, apple nachos are a snack that make it simple to get in your ‘apple a day’. Making an easy caramel dip and serving apples, with CheeCha puffs in Sea Salted Caramel is an easy and delicious afternoon snack, that won’t leave you feeling guilty.

Feta + Watermelon Skewers

Feta Watermelon Skewers

These delicious skewers are simple, and they come with flavor that’s going to leave you satisfied and with enough energy to run after the kids. For on the go, you could skip the skewers and toss them into a to-go container. It’s a simple + easy dish that when made with goat’s milk feta, is mild enough for the fussiest of kids to snack on.

Cutting this snack right before you leave home is recommended, as it’s best enjoyed as fresh as possible. If you’re packing these skewers for on the go, make sure to keep them as cold as possible.

Pecan Pie Balls

Combine 2 cups of pitted Medjool dates and 1 cup of pecans in the food processor, with teaspoon of vanilla until a dough is formed. Roll into balls, and place into the fridge. The energy balls are packed with nutrients and get just sweet enough with the dates (a natural sweetener) perfect for those times when you’re craving something sweet. Keep them in the freezer, and they’ll last even longer.
