What to Binge Watch Right Now - Round 4

Lori Uncategorized

It’s that time again - the time that I’m talking about what to binge watch on Netflix. This month, I’m talking the messed-up family edition. You know, the behind the closed doors drama that makes you uncomfortable just thinking about it. This is the month that also marks the ‘getting rid of cable for the summer’ so I can assume that over the next few months, we’re going to delve even deeper into Netflix to find more and more to watch.

The Slap

The plot sounded familiar when I saw the synopsis on Netflix, and it turns out I read the book last year. The first episode had me hooked. There’s drama behind the lives of the characters and it explores the dark side of parenthood that we don’t really talk about. The whole family dynamic gets completely screwed up when someone slaps a child (not their own) and the ripple effects will leave you feeling like one season isn’t enough.

Boyhood

Not a television show, but Boyhood is likely something that you’re going to watch for a little bit, come back to and then finally finish it. It feels like a binge watch because it’s so, so long. At almost three hours, it follows the journey of parents who are divorced, guiding their kid through adulthood.

Amber

There’s only four episodes, but it’s a mini binge watch that’s going to leave you craving more. Recently separated, Ben and Sarah Bailey find their lives turned upside down when their daughter Amber fails to return home one evening.

The Riches

They’re gypsies. One day they come across a family who has died and they assume their identities, taking over their life. The struggles that come with that are both hilarious, and dramatic, and will leave you with feelings for the characters. I’ve always loved Minnie Driver, and there are two seasons to get all of your binging in this month on a rainy night, or an up-late, night. The family is fantastically flawed - but aren’t the best of them?
