Ikea Hack: Kids Dress-Up Table with Floating Shelf

Lori DIY Projects

You know how you see something, and wonder, “How have we never thought about this?” That happened to us this weekend as we walked through ten show homes, still searching for the one.

I think we may have found it!

While we were walking through, we happened upon a girls bedroom that included one of the twenty dollar floating shelves from Ikea, used in a way that we’ve never seen before, as a kids vanity. Dressed up with two mirrors and tiny chairs, with dresses hanging to the side, it was inviting, perfect and was one of the ideas that we’re going to take and use in the kids rooms as they grow.

Space saving, inexpensive, and a fantastic way to customize a room while you stay under budget, the shelves are available in a wide range of colors allowing you to choose from classic white, or something bold like the lacquered line of shelves (that would also be quite durable).

How to make a Floating Dressing Table

  1. Install the Ikea Lack floating shelf, ensuring it’s anchored well into the wall
  2. Hang two mirrors (because it’s more fun to dress with a friend) - here’s our top choice (you can paint this frame quickly as a fast DIY project
  3. Find a couple of small chairs
  4. Enjoy a childhood of dress up fun

Isn’t the Ikea hack hanging kids vanity fabulous? Violet sure thought so.
