Learning at Home - Storytime Boxes from the Library

Lori Around Edmonton

One of the hardest part of coming up with things to teach preschool activities at home is finding everything that you need to create a comprehensive (and fun) lesson. Strathcona County Library takes the work out of that with the Story boxes.

What’s in the Storytime Box?

Story boxes for preschoolers come in various themes like seasons, fall, winter, dinosaurs, holidays and even birds (Violet’s choice today). With so many options available, you’ll have tons of options for learning at home.

Included in the box are three or four books surrounding the theme, printable sheets that you can copy (and print) at home, songs and lessons, and even a puppet to have a fun storytime experience. You can keep it for up to three weeks, reading the stories, learning the songs and learning a bit about the theme, before you have to return the entire storytime bin to the library.

Printing at Home

We do a lot of preschool learning at home. Unlike Olivia, Violet is immensely interested in learning everything she can, interestedly peeking over Olivia’s shoulder when she comes home from school with something to work on. From printing worksheets, to our favourite place to create your own word search puzzles and name practicing worksheets, we print a lot.

Like us, if you do a lot of printing at home, you’re going to want to find ways to save time. One of those biggest ways to save time is to register for HP Instant Ink, where you can get ink delivered to your home before you run out using your printer to communicate with the monthly service to have the ink delivered to your home, just in time. Not only is it a convenient way to shop for ink, it’s also a great way to save money - as you can save up to 50% off of the costs of ink using the program.

The next time we bring home a storytime kit, with a brand new theme (and brand new printables to be copied) we’re going to be able to copy those for our lesson, without the fear of running out of ink.

Learn more about Instant Ink at www.hp.com/ca. This post has been brought to you by a collaboration with HP Canada. The products mentioned in this post were provided to facilitate the feature.
