Santa Claus and Hay Rides at Callingwood Market

Lori Around Edmonton

December is one of the busiest months of the year. Fitting everything in, like that last minute shopping, the Christmas activities, the cookie making - can feel impossible. To avoid the rush, we pick and choose activities throughout the season that are going to create the best experience for the kids, create holiday fun and get us all in the Christmas spirit.

Santa Claus and Hay Rides (12/12 and 12/19)

The Marketplace at Callingwood is hosting Santa Clause and Hay Rides on December 12 and 19, 2015 from 11am-3pm – and it’s going to be a blast. The event takes place in the lobby of the Callingwood Professional Centre, 6650-177 Street. Hay ride pick up will be in front of the Professional Centre doors and event will include crafts for the kids, free hot chocolate and family fun.
When: December 12 and December 19, 11-3
Where: The Marketplace at Callingwood

Find the best Christmas Lights

The Edmonton Journal has created a map where users can upload images to a map of Edmonton with the best Christmas lights. Use the map to choose a few of your favourites or head outside the city to Leduc Country Lights (one of the best displays we’ve ever seen) where you can walk through with the kids (or bring a wagon or sled if you’ve got a three year old who doesn’t like to walk).

Decorate a Gingerbread House

Decorating a Gingerbread house is one of those activities that you just have to do in December. We find the best ones at Homesense (like the cool Disney Frozen one we found this year). To extend the fun even more, we made a trip to the bulk barn to pick up extra candy and extra icing, making the gingerbread house even more fun. It’s a quick and easy way to kick off the holidays.

Skate Amidst the Christmas Lights

Get those skates out of the garage and head to the Legislature grounds to go skating during the winter season. Lace ’em up and spend a night bundled up amidst the Christmas lights on the grounds. Bring a thermos of hot chocolate, a blanket to sit on and let the kids stay up late. This is one of the most magical experiences we’ve had with the kids.

Watch the Polar Express in Your Pajamas

There are four showings of The Polar Express, at one of the four pajama parties at Telus World of Science. This would be the perfect opportunity to stay cozy in your pajamas and watch a Christmas classic, and see one of the best Christmas movies of the season. Tickets are $11.95 and can be purchased online, for one of the four showing options.

What are your must-do activities during Christmas in Edmonton?
