There comes a time in your life when the idea of going to a club for a girls’ night out can seem like an awful chore. Not only do you get the guilt over the money you have to spend preparing for your night out – a new outfit, salon trip and getting your nails done do not come cheap – then there’s the horror of actually how much entry and drinks cost too. Plus, by the time you get in, you can’t actually hear or talk to any of your friends with all the noise. No, nights out can be an awful disappointment. But who says you have to go out in order to have fun? A girly night in is the perfect opportunity for you and your friends to catch-up, relax and enjoy yourselves. So I’ve put together five fun things to do on your next get together with the girls:

1: Old School Sleepover

When we were at school there was nothing more exciting than a sleepover with your friends. It was the perfect opportunity to gossip about boys, put on a face mask and eat lots of pizza. Plus there was never the ominous gloom of a curfew – you were staying! These were some of the happiest and stress-free times of our lives so planning a sleepover is the perfect opportunity to reminisce about the old times and relax with your best friends.

2: Poker Night

Our husbands seem to act like poker night is some kind of sacred man ritual, it kind of makes you wonder what all the fuss is about, making it the perfect experiment for a girls’ night in. A poker night can actually be great fun - get everyone to bring a snack for the table, get in some beers (or fruity ciders if the beer doesn’t appeal) and show those men that poker is just as much a woman’s game. Don’t be put off by being a beginner either, the internet has lots of handy tutorials and after some practice you might just give your husband a run for his money too.

3: Movie Night

With all the life stresses, sometimes it can be nice to just sit back together and watch some classic movies. Think chick flicks, horrors or even a night of weepy favorites – you’ll all just be glad to watch something other than a kid’s film. Add in some popcorn and wine and you’ll have one epic girly night in.

4: Baking Night

Another week, another school bake sale, birthday or holiday. It can seem never-ending at times, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make that night in the kitchen more exciting. A girly baking night is a wonderful excuse to invite the girls over, open a few bottles of wine and have a good moan about always having to bake for something or other. You’ll all soon find that the kids have some wonderful cakes for school and you turned that chore into the most fun night of the week.

5: Clothing Swap Night

With all that focus on making sure the kids have all the clothes they need, it can be easy to forget about something new for yourself. Plus, buying clothes for yourself often falls in the ‘want-buys’ rather than the ‘need-buys’. But, just think, your friends are probably feeling the same way, which is exactly why you all need a clothing swap night in. Tell everyone to bring clothes/shoes/accessories that are in good condition but they no longer want. These can then be exchanged for items that others have brought. Not only have you cleared out your cupboard, but you’ll also end up with some lovely new clothes without spending a penny! Remember to set some rules though so everyone gets a fair swap.
