‘Did you know, that when Mommy and Daddy were little we didn’t have iPads? And Netflix? We didn’t have Netflix.’
If you want to see an eye-roll like no other, just tell that to our six year old.
She’s had the injustice of having to share an iPad with her sister over the last couple of months, when the second met the unfortunate fate of the cement floor of the garage, and we chose not to replace the glass and repair it, as a lesson learned.
They biggest struggle isn’t the games, or the Youtube videos they watch - it’s the series on Netflix that they just can’t seem to agree on. Violet’s big into Ben and Holly, and Olivia’s big into … anything but Ben and Holly. She couldn’t care less what Nanny Plum and Wise Old Elf are getting up to - she just wants to watch her big girl shows.
Sharing Netflix can be tricky - lucky that Netflix has come up with some great ideas for siblings that want to watch together. We’ve found a winner in the Sugar and Spice siblings Playlist, with Lego Friends.
It’s kept them both entertained, and up to date with the characters that they play with together in LEGO sets, Olivia, Emma and Mia.
In the A Tale of Two Distant Ages playlist, the kids loved getting to know the next generation of Full House, with Fuller House and Holes, a childhood must watch classic.
As a bonus, it takes them out of the regular comfort zone where they usually spend their screen time, opening up Netflix for different suggestions to come up in each of their profiles. These new suggestions have created imaginative games that I catch them playing off-screen too.
They learned that sharing isn’t so bad, after all - and we had precious quiet time as we let them stream in a fort before bedtime.
