Last week, Violet had a hit and run incident with a local kid and a power wheels jeep. The result? A knee so bloodied up that she wouldn’t put any weight on it. Refusing to walk on it, she screamed when we woke her to go to the washroom before we went to sleep for the night.

Half-awake, I decided that we would bring her to the hospital, at nearly midnight, to get it checked. In my half-awake state, I didn’t think she should be screaming as much as she was for ‘just a scrape’.

An x-ray later, it was confirmed that she was just fine, and to let her rest the knee and not put any weight on it, until she was ready. She was in good spirits, but still in a bit of pain, I was hesitant to let any of the staff clean it, we opted out of that and went home for the night.

I waited until she was asleep, sprayed some stuff on it and covered it up with Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin Bandages, because they’re strong enough to stay on while she slept but were still easily removed, or changed. The minimal pulling on the skin usually makes for a pain-free removal, in the morning.

Hint: Nexcare™ Sensitive Skin Bandages are perfect for kids with sensitive skin (especially if your kids are like ours and seem to cut or scrape themselves on a daily basis), the bandages stay in place, even in tricky spots like knees and elbows.

The next morning, she awoke, still refusing to put any weight on it. I carried her from the couch to the bathroom, back to the couch, and pulled her in the wagon to the playground, where I pushed her in the baby swing, carried her back to the wagon, walked her to the grocery store and got her a ‘sad-face’ surprise egg.

And that’s how the day went, me carrying her, wherever she needed to go, and her gently saying ‘ouch’ whenever I moved her leg.

Until five o’clock.

At five o’clock, her friend arrived at the front door and she heard him coming. Not only did she get up off of the couch, but she ran out the front door and half way down the block, on that knee that required her to be carried all day. Giggling, she was awfully proud of herself as she explained to the neighbours that she ‘pranked me’ and made me carry her all day long.

I had been pranked by a four-year-old - and all she probably needed was a bandage.
