6 Ways to Connect and Spend Family Day At Home

Lori Kids Activities

There’s plenty to do in Edmonton on family day if you want to explore the city, but for families that want to connect and spend the day at home - we’ve got a few ideas to get you started.

Games Marathon
Break out the board games and spend the day together in a competition. We’ve got plenty of ideas for games that are suitable for the whole family, like Sequence or Bananagrams, Giant Jenga or Sushi Go. With those games, you’re able to make them as easy or as difficult as you want, making them great for all skill levels. For more difficult games, we team up one of the little kids with a parent. Don’t have board games at home? If you’re willing to venture out of the house, board game cafes are a great place to start.

Floor Picnics
Car picnics, floor picnics - meals are much more fun when you attach a picnic to it. To celebrate Family Day, Edo Japan has a Family Meal that includes 4 meals for $24. The adults can nosh on Teppan meals, and the kids can eat the kids meals. With the option for brown rice, and a handful of broccoli, it’s one of those meals that we stop and grab quite often, so we’re excited about the family deal! Adults can choose from Teriyaki chicken or Sukiyaki beef, and the offer is available.

Netflix Marathon
Cue up the Netflix. and choose your favourite series. Since you’ve got the entire day to marathon, choose a movie series or television series to binge on and ditch the guilt about finishing the whole thing. Grab the popcorn and snacks, bring down the cozy blankets and snuggle up on the couch.

Blanket Forts
Bring the blanket fort to an entirely new level. This one starts with gathering up every single blanket in the house and bringing them to the central area where you’re going to create the fort. Next, grab a few chairs, and other stuff to use for the support of the fort and build an epic blanket fort together - ignoring the mess. Spend the day playing inside!

Read Aloud
We’ve been working on the Chronicles of Narnia series at-home and a day off with both parents means the ability to power through multiple chapters! Find a book around the house, or download a book from iBooks and start a new tradition of reading aloud. We like to switch back and forth between the kids who can read, and us reading, to make sure that we’re all getting a bit of reading aloud in!

Make Your Own Sundaes
Make your own Sundaes are one of our favourite ways to celebrate special occasions. Grab a tub of your favourite ice cream and let the kids choose the toppings for the Sundaes, it’s perfect for an add on to the Edo Family Meal special. For under $10, you can have a fun dessert experience, and when you pair it with the fun things to do at home, we’ve shared, it’s kind of the perfect day.
