Seven years.
That’s how long I’ve been here - sharing things in this space.
I’ve always wondered if there was to be a point when the constraints of the space I created no longer matched with how we felt.
That time has been here for a while - a combination of starting other projects, projects that fueled a passion more than the brand that Frugal Edmonton Mama has come to be, and leaning towards minimalism. The beginning of 2016 was the beginning of the end, when we got rid of more than half of the stuff in our home, when we turned to trying to attain a minimalist lifestyle, and were buying less, less, and less.
It didn’t mesh so well with a brand focused essentially on shopping.
We turned from young adults who spent their vacations shopping, to adults who know the value of time as a currency, and the value of experiencing-experiences, rather than the ‘stuff’ in their lives.
It was life changing.
We were young when Frugal Edmonton Mama began, and now wiser, older, learning more about the value of experiences rather than ‘stuff’. It’s difficult to keep creating when you’re living in the constraints of a brand created based on shopping. Even more difficult, to create authentic content, especially sponsored content, as Frugal Edmonton Mama has become a monetized blog, generating a fair amount of income.
That’s kind of scary - but when your work feels too much like ‘work’, it’s time to change it up, right? In the sake of ‘Do What You Love’.
I’m stepping away.
I’m stepping away to fuel a passion, of exploring with children, and we’ll be sharing that too - but this space, what is to come of it?
It will be here, for a while. Until the confetti is cleaned up. Until we figure out just what we’re going to do with it.
It’s been seven years, seven years of you, reading - and I want to say thank-you for that. We’ve grown, and learned, and had experiences come from this small space on the internet, friends made and lessons learned. I walk away lighter. I walk away content.
So thank you, thank you, thank you, it’s been a slice.
